Asahiyama Zoo & Biei Private Tour from Sapporo

Make Asahiyama Zoo the priority, then decide whether Biei fits your day. A private driver lets you plan around your family, but winter opening hours, roads and daylight still determine what is realistic.

How to plan this journey

The zoo and Biei are separate stops with travel between them. From Sapporo, the journey is already substantial, so start by choosing how much time you want inside the zoo. If seeing the animals matters most, protect that visit and treat the Blue Pond as optional rather than promising a complete Furano–Biei circuit as well.

The penguin walk is a seasonal zoo activity dependent on sufficient snow and the zoo's announcements. Its start date and daily operation are not guaranteed by booking a vehicle. Check the official calendar for opening periods, seasonal closures and the current day's programme.

Choose a realistic route, then check current openings, event dates and road conditions. These are examples, not fixed timetables.

A practical model day

An example sequence, not a fixed timetable. We confirm pickup, opening times, daylight and the final route before booking.

  1. Early Sapporo pickup · build in a road and comfort-break buffer rather than working backwards from an optimistic map estimate.
  2. Asahiyama Zoo · prioritise the areas and any confirmed events your group most wants to see.
  3. Lunch and a route decision · review the remaining daylight, road conditions and your children's energy.
  4. Biei if practical · choose one suitable stop, or return directly to Sapporo. A Furano hotel drop-off is another route to quote separately.

Before you confirm

A winter Blue Pond visit does not always show open turquoise water. Snow, ice, weather and seasonal lighting can change the view; an illumination visit has different timing from a daylight visit. Shirahige Falls is another possibility, not an automatic extra stop.

Tell us if anyone needs to avoid long walks or steps. Snowy paths can be slippery; warm clothing and footwear are still needed even though the car provides a place to rest between visits. Tickets and meals are separate from the vehicle quote.

Price guide for your route

This route needs an individual quote. A sightseeing transfer is different from a direct airport transfer: stops, waiting time, the final hotel and the driver's return journey all affect the total.

No advance payment for the vehicle service. Pay the driver in Japanese yen on the day, by cash or card. The only advance payment is the agreed accommodation cost when the driver must stay overnight.

What your quote includes

Included: vehicle, professional driver, fuel, expressway tolls and parking for your agreed route.

Not included: attraction admission, meals and your accommodation.

Day tours include up to 10 hours from your pickup time. Overtime is ¥5,000 per additional 30 minutes.

Multi-day tours are priced day by day. If the driver stays overnight, add accommodation from ¥15,000 per night, depending on the area. Only this driver-accommodation amount is paid by card when booking; book early because rooms can fill up.

Free cancellation until 8 days before travel. Cancellation charges apply from 7 days before travel; the applicable fee schedule is confirmed in your written booking conditions.

Child seats, including rear-facing infant seats and booster seats, can be arranged. Share each child’s age, height and weight when enquiring.

Sightseeing transfers between different hotels or towns are welcome: for example, Sapporo → Asahiyama Zoo → Biei → a Furano hotel, or Jozankei → Lake Toya.

Questions about this trip

Is the penguin walk included or guaranteed?

No. The zoo decides whether and when it operates according to snow and animal conditions. We plan transport around the published information, while admission and any attraction arrangements are confirmed separately.

Can we include the Blue Pond and return within ten hours?

It depends on the date, zoo visit length, road conditions and pickup point. Send your priorities for an individual route check. If the combination is too ambitious, choose the zoo alone, shorten Biei or consider an overnight journey.

Do I need to pay in advance?

No advance payment is required for the vehicle service. Pay your driver in JPY on the day, by cash or card. Only agreed driver accommodation for overnight trips is paid by card when booking.

Are your vehicles and drivers licensed and insured?

Our journeys use licensed commercial passenger vehicles with green number plates, professional drivers holding Japan’s Class 2 driving licence, and passenger liability insurance. Ask us for the operating-company details if you would like to check them.

Does the driver speak English?

Drivers use everyday conversational English and translation apps. Our dedicated English-speaking team handles planning and support before and after travel. A fluent tour guide is not automatically included.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellation is free until 8 days before travel. Fees apply from 7 days before; the full fee schedule is provided with your booking conditions before you confirm.
