CEO · LankaMe Japan Co., Ltd.

Okuda Shintaro joined Mitsui & Co., Ltd. as a new graduate, working on automotive and transportation-related businesses in the company’s then machinery and transportation systems division. He was subsequently posted to Brazil.

After returning to Japan, he started his own business and began operating from a Hong Kong base in 2021. Building on the success of LankaMe, his private charter service in Sri Lanka, he returned to Japan and launched private charter services in Hokkaido.

The Story Behind HokkaVia

HokkaVia’s roots lie in LankaMe, the private charter service our CEO, Okuda Shintaro, developed in Sri Lanka.

While helping many travellers get around Sri Lanka, we learned that the quality of a journey depends on more than the comfort of the vehicle.

A driver who knows the area takes the wheel, while the itinerary is planned around road conditions and realistic journey times. When plans change, decisions are adapted to the situation on the ground.

Even when visiting the same sights, the way you travel can make a remarkable difference to your experience.

Drawing on this experience, we chose Hokkaido, in our home country of Japan, as the next place to offer our services.

Hokkaido’s natural beauty, food and changing seasonal landscapes attract travellers from around the world. Yet its attractions are spread across a vast area, and in winter especially, snow, icy roads and shorter daylight hours shape how people travel.

That is why we believed a journey through Hokkaido needed more than simply arranging a vehicle.

We design itineraries around each traveller’s wishes and arrange transport with reliable professional drivers. Our aim is to create journeys where you can focus on the scenery and experiences in front of you, without worrying about language barriers or finding your way in an unfamiliar place.

Bringing the experience we gained in Sri Lanka to Hokkaido.

That is how HokkaVia began.
